County may move sheriff's air units

SUNLAND - A 35-year-old man was killed Tuesday when his van veered into an oncoming lane and collided head-on with a car on La Tuna Canyon Road around 12:20 p.m., officials said.

The driver of the car, a woman believed to be in her 40s, was critically injured in the crash just south of the Foothill Freeway, Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Los Angeles.  spokesman Bob Collis said.

Community day for Granada Hills

GRANADA HILLS - The Granada Hills Community and Family Day will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Masonic Center at 16535 Rinaldi St.

The event features displays and representatives from businesses, the Los Angeles fire and police departments and a free child identification program. Activities include a silent auction, pony rides, magic shows, a horseshoe tournament, youth games and live entertainment.

There will be a pancake breakfast and barbecue lunch.

Guilty plea likely in fake-bag case

Based on a plea agreement, a Glendale woman is expected to plead guilty to charges that she sold counterfeit designer purses and other items, a federal prosecutor said Tuesday.

Fatemeh Jaghouri, 47, is expected to plead guilty Monday before U.S. District Judge A. Howard Matz to trafficking in counterfeit goods that bore fake trademarks from Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Louis Vuitton and Fendi, among others.

Movers accused of overcharging

Two Los Angeles-area moving companies that have allegedly overcharged customers while operating without licenses were sued Tuesday by a state agency that regulates such businesses, officials said Tuesday.

The California Public Utilities Commission The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC; also often commonly referred to as simply the PUC) [1] is a state Public Utilities Commission which regulates privately-owned utilities in the state of California, including electric power,  is seeking restraining orders against Xtreme Movers Inc. of North Hollywood, and Ford Moving and Storage of Sherman Oaks in separate suits filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Representatives for the companies could not be reached for comment on the allegations.

Kevin Oakley, 41, of Sun Valley, was swimming in the lower pool of Palikea Stream with his wife, Michelle, and their children, Brielle, 11, and Austin, 7, at about 6 p.m. Monday afternoon, park officials said in a news release.

When the boy lost something, he went after it. Oakley caught up with his son and held him by the arm, and the two were swept out of the pool into a narrow rocky part of the stream that leads out to the ocean, officials said.
