NORTHRIDGE - Cal State Northridge led all other public colleges and universities in the state in preparing students to get teaching credentials, according to a state panel.

More CSUN graduates were issued teaching credentials than graduates from any other CSU See DSU/CSU.

Fishermen report rat poison pelting

VENTURA - A group of fishermen claim they were bombarded at sea by a helicopter spraying poison pellets meant to kill rats on nearby Anacapa Island.

About 20 anglers were aboard a 53-foot boat about a quarter-mile off the island when they were buzzed by a helicopter. A rain of pellets then came down on the boat on Nov. 23, hitting at least one fisherman in the head, they said. Nobody was seriously hurt, the fishermen reported.

Donations sought for homeless group

With the holiday shopping season getting under way Friday, a nonprofit community organization that works with the homeless is asking for the public's help in filling its holiday wish list.

The Los Angeles-based People Assisting The Homeless said it is looking for a host of items that address the ``immediate and long-term needs of homeless men, women and children.''

Items needed by the group include: twin-sized blankets; toiletry and personal hygiene items; gift certificates; telephone cards; personal computers; baby diapers and infant formula; and toys and games for children up to 18 years old.

Anyone who wishes to donate is asked to contact Liz Hagan at (310) 644- 2205.
