PACOIMA - A 73-year-old Sylmar woman riding in a car was killed Monday night and a male driver was injured in a single car crash off Laurel Canyon Boulevard Laurel Canyon Boulevard is a major street in the city of Los Angeles, California. It starts off at Polk Street in Sylmar in the northern San Fernando Valley near the junction of the San Diego (Interstate 405) and the Golden State Freeways (Interstate 5).  and Weidner Street, police said Tuesday.

Mary Gorewicz died after the 6:15 p.m. crash, police said. Theodore Pocwierz, 48, also of Sylmar was injured. Police said Pocwierz lost control of his Toyota Tercel The Tercel was Toyota's entry-level vehicle in North America during the 1980s and 1990s. The Tercel was slotted between the Corolla and the Starlet, and was meant to offer basic affordable transportation while introducing young buyers to the Toyota brand. , hit a stop sign, and then a parked car.

No overdue fees until after Feb. 15

Pet owners who put off licensing their cat or dog, fearing overdue fines, have until Feb. 15 to comply with the law without penalty, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control announced Tuesday.

Agency to aid kin of quake victims

The American Red Cross American Red Cross: see Red Cross.  of Greater Los Angeles is helping local residents who have immediate family members in the area of Friday's 6.3 earthquake in Iran find out the welfare of their loved ones. The Red Cross will accept welfare inquiries only for the affected areas in Kerman Province, including the city of Bam and surrounding villages.

Checkpoints net arrests, citations

GLENDALE - Two recent state-funded drunk driving and driver's license checkpoints on San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. Window opening for student grants
