BRIEFLY PASSENGER DIES; DUI ARREST MADE.


SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - A 25-year-old Santa Clarita man was killed Saturday afternoon and another man severely injured after the driver they were riding with lost control of a pickup and smashed into a tree, authorities said Sunday.

 said Enrique Villar, 36, of Canyon Country was driving the pickup at a high rate of speed west on Placerita Canyon Road about 5 p.m., just east of the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley. .

Villar was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and manslaughter, officials said.

Police said Villar lost control of the 2000 Toyota, drove across the road and down an embankment and struck a tree.

The 25-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of relatives.

Villar and Sal Ortiz, 23, were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital with severe injuries. Their conditions were not available.

Dead man found in wrecked SUV
