BRIEFLY PARSONS NAMED NEW EIDC EXEC.


Lindsley Parsons Jr., an industry consultant and former movie executive, was named Monday as the six-month interim president of the Entertainment Industry Development Corp.

The EIDC's executive committee selected Parsons to replace Cody Cluff, who resigned under pressure in December. Cluff got a severance package A severance package is pay and benefits an employee receives when they leave employment at a company. In addition to the employee's remaining regular pay, it may include some of the following:
  • An additional payment based on months of service
 worth nearly $300,000.

District Attorney Steve Cooley Stephen Lawrence ("Steve") Cooley (born May 1, 1947 in Los Angeles, California) is a veteran prosecutor who was elected as Los Angeles County's 36th District Attorney on November 7, 2000. He was sworn in for his second term on December 6, 2004.  launched a criminal investigation of Cluff and the quasi-public agency last year over possible misuse of public funds. Agency officials say the EIDC is not a public entity.

The Motion Picture Association of America applauded Parsons' selection.

Valley backers raise $1,200 fund

A group dedicated to helping ``Valley-friendly'' candidates in the March elections for the Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  raised $1,200 in its inaugural fund-raiser on Sunday, an organizer said.

The Candidates Group, which formed after last November's failed vote on Valley secession, plans to donate to council candidates who advocate Valley causes, said organizer Frank Sheftel, who ran for a Valley council seat in the secession election.

Sheftel said the group will support candidates both inside and outside the Valley who stand for local representation in city government and for equitable distribution of city resources.

Cop won't face charges in death

VENTURA - A California Highway Patrol officer who was on a high-speed chase in Oxnard when he became involved in a crash that led to the death of an 18-year-old woman will not face manslaughter charges, officials said Monday.

 Officer James Raughton was pursuing a car for a traffic violation when he struck a car driven by Christopher Hayes of Oxnard.

Jessica Mohorko, 18, who was a passenger in Hayes' vehicle, died at the scene of the crash on March 23. Trial in jewel store holdup ordered

A 55-year-old man must stand trial for the shooting deaths of a couple during a holdup at their North Hollywood jewelry store last May, a judge ruled Monday.

Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Jessica P. Silvers found sufficient evidence to order Fereydun ``Fred'' Shahidzaeh to stand trial on two counts of murder and one count of robbery.

Shahidzaeh is accused in the May 25 slayings of Garbis Tarakjian and his wife, Mayda.
