BRIEFLY PADILLA PRESSES FOR VALLEY BUSWAY.

Pier 400 lease set for city approval

The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners approved a 25-year lease Wednesday with Maersk Pacific Ltd. for the 485-acre Pier 400 container terminal at the Port of Los Angeles The Port of Los Angeles is located on San Pedro Bay in the San Pedro neighborhood of Los Angeles, approximately 20 miles (30 km) south of downtown. If approved by the City Council, the lease for the Pier 400 facility will bring the world's largest shipping line to the port to operate the world's biggest proprietary container complex, said Port Director Larry Keller.

Path along river opened to cyclists

Mayor Richard Riordan Wednesday officially opened a new stretch of the Los Angeles River The Los Angeles River is an intermittent river flowing through Los Angeles County, California, from Canoga Park in the west end of the San Fernando Valley, 51 miles (82 km) southeast to its mouth in Long Beach.  Bike Path in Atwater Village.

The new $2.2 million segment runs 1.38 miles - from Fletcher Drive to Los Feliz Boulevard - along the west bank of the river and will eventually connect with Griffith Park.

Riordan said the path gives cyclists a safe, picturesque roadway to ride for recreation or commuting.

2-day-old corpse found off freeway

The body of a 20-year-old Agoura man fatally injured when a 1993 Toyota pickup truck he was driving ran off the westbound Ventura Freeway was found Wednesday - two days after the crash.

The discovery was reported about 11:15 a.m., just west of Reseda Boulevard, said California Highway Patrol Officer Karen Faciane. But the crash occurred sometime Monday, Faciane said.
