BRIEFLY PACOIMA PARTY-GOER SHOT TO DEATH.


PACOIMA - A 21-year-old man was shot to death while attending a party in the 10900 block of Fellows Avenue early Saturday, police said.

Party-goers heard gunshots coming from a few houses away and as they were leaving, found Jimmy Montoya of Pacoima lying on a parkway next to the street, Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police spokesman Eduardo Funes said.

Friends took Montoya, of Pacoima, to Pacifica Hospital, where he died. The motive for the shooting was unknown.

Abandoned building burns

SYLMAR - A fire broke out in an abandoned building at Olive View Hospital early Saturday morning, and about 30 firefighters had it out a half-hour later, officials reported.

The damage was confined to the building, part of the complex abandoned after the 1994 Northridge Earthquake The Northridge earthquake occurred on January 17, 1994 at 4:31 AM Pacific Standard Time in the city of Los Angeles, California. The earthquake had a "strong" moment magnitude of 6. . The cause was under investigation.

Suspect arrested in for burglaries

VENTURA - A transient suspected in a series of 23 commercial burglaries since July was taken into custody Friday night, authorities said.

Liquor store robbery sought

No one was injured.

Man nearly drowns in pool

NORTH HILLS - A 46-year-old man visiting from Las Vegas was in critical condition Saturday at Mission Community Hospital after nearly drowning in an apartment pool in the 9100 block of Cedros Avenue, authorities said.
