BRIEFLY PACOIMA MAN DIES AFTER BEING STABBED.


PACOIMA - A 23-year-old man was fatally stabbed early Friday during a fight in front of his residence, police said.

Victor Cruz of Pacoima was being treated by paramedics at 1:30 a.m. in the 9800 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard Laurel Canyon Boulevard is a major street in the city of Los Angeles, California. It starts off at Polk Street in Sylmar in the northern San Fernando Valley near the junction of the San Diego (Interstate 405) and the Golden State Freeways (Interstate 5). , police said. He was taken to a local hospital and later died, police said.

Murderer awaits new judge

VAN NUYS - A new judge is expected to be chosen to determine whether Gov. Gray Davis wrongly denied parole for a man convicted of murdering a Calabasas schoolmate in 1985, an attorney said today.

Robert Rosenkrantz's appellate lawyer, Rowan Klein, said any further action to try to keep Superior Court Judge Kathryne Ann Stoltz from hearing his case again would delay his bid to have Rosenkrantz released from prison.

Arms dealer expected to plea

LOS ANGELES - An international arms dealer dubbed ``The Merchant of Death'' is expected to plead guilty Monday to a federal charge stemming from a scheme to defraud a Los Angeles bank out of more than $3 million, authorities said.

Sarkis Soghanalian, 71, and others are accused of stealing and cashing two blank checks in 1995, according to prosecutors.
