BRIEFLY OXNARD MAN KILLED WALKING ON TRACKS.


OXNARD - A northbound Amtrak Amtrak, the National Railroad Passenger Corp., authorized to operate virtually all intercity passenger railroad routes in the United States. Amtrak was created by Congress in 1970 in response to more than two decades of continuous operating deficits by privately run  passenger train struck and killed a man walking on the tracks about 9 a.m. Saturday near Wagon Wheel Road, officials said.

Oswald Rene Chavez, 43, of Oxnard was killed instantly, police said. The train was traveling about 25 mph after the engineer attempted an emergency stop.

No one on the train was hurt. The Goleta-bound train carried 30 passengers, who returned to Oxnard and continued on a later train.

Woman motorist dies in collision

A woman motorist was killed Saturday night when a man suspected of driving drunk ran a red light north of Granada Hills and collided with her vehicle, police said.

The woman, whose name and age were not released, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7:30 p.m. crash at San Fernando San Fernando, city, Argentina

Helicopter hoists horse to safety

Police think man was killed tagging

KOREATOWN - Gunmen shot and killed a 30-year-old man in a drive-by shooting drive-by shooting Public health A phenomenon in which one or more persons–commonly members of street gangs, open fire à la Al Capone from moving vehicles, often in retaliation for an alleged wrong-doing by a rival gang  early Saturday, according to Los Angeles police officials.

DUI patrol, check garner 11 arrests

SANTA CLARITA - A crackdown on motoring scofflaws in Santa Clarita that ended early Saturday resulted in 11 people being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, the Sheriff's Department reported.

The operation involved a checkpoint on northbound McBean Parkway, north of Bridgeport Lane, and a ``saturation patrol'' involving 11 law enforcement personnel throughout the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672. , according to a statement from the sheriff's Santa Clarita station.

Five of the arrests were made at the checkpoint, which was staffed from 8:45 p.m. Friday until 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Deputies said 1,345 of the 1,350 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint were screened, and a total of 15 drivers were given further field sobriety tests.

Young boy's body found in trash bin

Judge will make his ruling public

A judge has changed his mind and agreed to make public his ruling on whether documents from the Los Angeles Catholic Archdiocese can be withheld from prosecutors investigating child-molestation allegations involving Catholic priests.

Superior Court Judge Thomas F. Nuss was ordered by a state appeals court last December to reconsider his decision to seal the ruling.

In court papers released Friday, Nuss said he decided this past week that when he prepares his much-awaited ruling he will do so ``in a way that will permit it to be publicly released.'' He also said he expects to rule within the next few weeks on whether the archdiocese's documents can continue to be withheld.
