The man was riding against traffic in the northbound lane of 25th Street East, which does not have streetlights or sidewalks in that section south of Palmdale Boulevard, authorities said.

Driver who died in car crash is ID'd

LANCASTER - A motorist killed Friday when his car went out of control on Avenue M and hit a light pole has been identified as 27-year-old Brian Rollins.

Rollins died at Antelope Valley Hospital less than an hour after the 5 p.m. Friday crash near the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley.  on-ramp, authorities said.

Deputies said they believe that Rollins' 1993 Acura Integra had been passing another car when it went out of control. Two passengers were injured, and a third was unhurt, deputies said.

Sobriety stop set for Thursday night

LANCASTER - Sheriff's deputies will stop motorists to check for drinking and licenses in a checkpoint scheduled for Thursday night in Lancaster.

The checkpoint will run from 6:30 to 11 p.m. on a Lancaster street that won't be disclosed until shortly before the checkpoint opens, deputies said.

The checkpoint will be paid for under a state grant to the city, officials said.

Apartment check results in arrests

PALMDALE - Seven people were arrested Monday when authorities checked an apartment to make sure the tenants were complying with government rental-subsidy rules.

Three ex-convicts were arrested on suspicion of parole violations and four other people were arrested on warrants Monday at the apartment on Tenth Place East, sheriff's deputies said.

Investigators recommended termination of the apartment unit's ``Section 8'' rental assistance, deputies said.
