Buyer protection bill reintroduced

Assemblywoman Cindy Montanez, D-San Fernando, on Wednesday reintroduced legislation that she says would provide the strongest protections in the nation for car buyers, including a three-day ``cooling-off period An interval of time during which no action of a specific type can be taken by either side in a dispute. An automatic delay in certain jurisdictions, apart from ordinary court delays, between the time when Divorce papers are filed and the divorce hearing takes place. .''

The bill was vetoed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Sept. 30. Montanez said she is determined to get the ``Car Buyer's Bill of Rights'' passed this time around.

In addition to giving car buyers three days to reconsider, the legislation would cap auto dealers' markups of loan interest rates at 2.5 percent, or 2 percent for longer loans.

The bill would also require dealers to inform potential buyers of their credit scores and would set minimum standards for ``certified'' used cars.
