BRIEFLY NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR CATALYST AWARD.


LANCASTER - Nominations are being accepted through Friday for the Frank Altadonna Award, presented by the Catalyst Foundation Catalyst Foundation - non-profit organization supporting orphaned, abandoned and homeless children in Vietnam through scholarship programs and direct relief efforts. It also works with children adopted from Vietnam.  to local individuals who make a positive impact on the community.

Nominations of one to two typed pages can be delivered to the Catalyst office at 44758 Elm Ave., Lancaster, or faxed to (661) 942-0738.

The winner will be honored at a Feb. 14 open house, and Catalyst will donate $250 to a nonprofit organization Nonprofit Organization

An association that is given tax-free status. Donations to a non-profit organization are often tax deductible as well.

Notes:
Examples of non-profit organizations are charities, hospitals and schools.

PALMDALE - After a three-hour search by deputies, a parolee was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of burglarizing a Palmdale jewelry store, officials said.

Richard Saucedo, 29, of Palmdale was arrested about 2 a.m., three hours after he was seen inside A&G Jewelry at 2250 E. Palmdale Blvd. by a passer-by who contacted the Sheriff's Department.

``Someone spotted him in the store roaming around inside and contacted us,'' said Deputy Darrel Bonsal.

When deputies arrived, Saucedo climbed into the rafters of the store in an attempt to escape, officials said. Deputies and search dogs searched for hours before locating the suspect.
