Motorcyclist dies after Valley crash

A motorcyclist was killed Thursday morning when his motorcycle collided with a car at the intersection of Raymer Street and Sepulveda Boulevard.

, said the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Raymer in the left turn lane to go south on Sepulveda. Traffic in that lane was backed up, and the motorcyclist went around it on the left side and collided with a car turning left.

The motorcyclist, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center's Sherman Way campus where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room. The car driver's name also was not released. Officers are still investigating the incident and no charges have been filed.

Police ask for help in identification

Police were asking for the public's help Thursday identifying a man and woman who have robbed at least two San Fernando Valley banks.

Bank of America (NYSE: BAC TYO: 8648 ) is the largest commercial bank in the United States in terms of deposits, and the largest company of its kind in the world.

Bicyclist who died in shooting named

PACOIMA - Officials Thursday identified a 33-year-old bicyclist who was killed in a drive-by shooting drive-by shooting Public health A phenomenon in which one or more persons–commonly members of street gangs, open fire à la Al Capone from moving vehicles, often in retaliation for an alleged wrong-doing by a rival gang  in Pacoima.

Project cuts crime in MacArthur Park

A public-private partnership meant to reduce crime at MacArthur Park has decreased homicides by 38 percent and shootings by 50 percent, officials said Thursday.

More letters going out to taxpayers

The state Franchise Tax Board is sending 10,000 letters to taxpayers who may have used illegal tax shelters and to businesses that sell the shelters, the board announced Thursday.

The mailing is in addition to 18,000 letters already sent as part of a continuing crackdown, officials said.

This round includes 125 letters to the promoters of tax shelters, informing them of their responsibilities under legislation signed last year. The new law increased penalties for investing in illegal shelters and added registration requirements for such shelters.
