BRIEFLY MOUNTASIA TO HOST 'GIRLS DAY OUT'.


CANYON COUNTRY - The Girls Issues Group, a support group for teenage girls, will hold a ``Girls Day Out'' from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 20 at Mountasia Family Fun Center.

Girls Issues Group, which started in 2000, is a collaboration Working together on a project. See collaborative software.  between the city of Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Community Center and the SCV SCV Santa Clarita Valley (California)

Located 7 mi (11 km) SE of San Juan, it is a residential suburb of the capital, as well as a commercial and industrial center.  Nuez from the Youth Project provide the girls, ages 11-17, with a listening ear, support, referrals, guest speakers and outings. The mission of the group is to provide support and to help the girls plan for success and make positive choices.

The Newhall Girls Issues Group just completed its eight-week session, which began in October. Another session will begin in January, and other groups are held throughout Santa Clarita.

Weste will read story to children

VALENCIA - To help ring in the holidays, Santa Clarita Councilwoman Laurene Weste will read ``The Polar Express'' to children during story time at a local book store.

``I love 'The Polar Express' story and think it is a terrific holiday story. I also appreciate the opportunity to promote literacy in our community,'' Weste said.

She will read during the story hour at 10 a.m. Monday at Barnes & Noble, 23630 Valencia Blvd., Valencia. Special holiday treats will be served.

Barnes & Noble hosts a story hour twice weekly, free and open to the public. For information, call the store at (661) 254-6604.

Doctor sponsors seniors' luncheon

NEWHALL - Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  senior citizens will be treated to a special holiday luncheon, sponsored by Dr. Robert Abrams Robert Abrams (1938[1]- )is a politician and lawyer in New York. He served as a member of the New York State Assembly representing the Bronx in the 1970s. From 1970 to 1979, he served as the Bronx Borough President and ex officio  and the FootCare Center of Santa Clarita, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall.

The FootCare Center has sponsored this luncheon several times in the past and it is a favorite among local seniors. In addition to the meal, attendees enjoy having the doctor's staff around to answer questions and to just chat.
