Traci Tomack, 23, was aboard the Booster on Sunday, when a metal pin hit her in the face. She had several broken teeth, a broken jaw and facial wounds requiring more than 20 stitches, her parents said.

The company operating the ride failed to immediately report the accident, as required by California law, officials said.

Hours earlier, Aidyl Sofia-Gonzalez, 30, of La Canada-Flintridge, fell from the Adrenaline Drop onto a five-inch foam mat. A safety net designed to catch riders was set too low and caused some injuries to Sofia-Gonzalez, state investigators said.

 bus drivers prepare to strike

Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus drivers will go on strike at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday unless Gov. Gray Davis imposes a 60-day cooling-off period in contract talks, union officials said Thursday.

The governor is expected to decide in coming days whether to intervene. MTA officials say the cooling off period is not necessary as negotiations with the drivers' United Transportation Union are progressing.

During a cooling-off period, talks would continue but no labor action could happen.
