BRIEFLY MOORPARK TEAM TAKES FIRST PLACE.


Moorpark High School Moorpark High School, located in Moorpark, California, is a public high school in the Moorpark Unified School District and currently has an enrollment of 2,478 students.[1]  will represent Ventura County in the California Academic Decathlon decathlon (dĭkăth`lŏn), in modern Olympic games, a contest for men held over two days and composed of 10 track-and-field events.  March 7-9 in Modesto, officials announced Tuesday.

Moorpark scored a total of 49,693 points out of a possible 60,000 in the first round of the competition, and took first place in each of the 10 subjects. Southland teen 1 of 2 recognized

CHATSWORTH - A Southland teen was named one of California's top two youth volunteers for 2003 in a nationwide program that honors young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism.

Chas Duff, 14, of Chatsworth, and Laurel Barchas, 15, of Truckee, were selected from more than 24,000 high school and middle-level students.

Girl, 15, hit by car crossing street

PASADENA - A 15-year-old pedestrian remained in critical condition Tuesday at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena after being struck Monday by a driver who had been drinking, investigators said.

The girl, who was in a marked crosswalk, was struck about 8:45 p.m. at Pennsylvania and Altura boulevards in La Crescenta, according to the California Highway Patrol.

GLENDALE - A 16-year-old boy was shot in the foot Monday at Maple Park in South Glendale after an argument with another male, witnesses told police. The shooting occurred about 1:50 p.m. in the southwest corner of the park near Raleigh Street.

Helicopter crew called to save men

A sheriff's helicopter crew rescued two young men Tuesday from a 4- wheel-drive vehicle that got stuck in mountainous terrain near Pyramid Lake. The young men, who were not hurt, used a cell phone to call for help about 3:05 p.m., said sheriff's Sgt. Greg Lewison.
