Mercury will rise over the weekend

A high-pressure system building over Southern California this weekend is expected to bring triple-digit temperatures by eliminating the sea breeze and marine layer that helps moderate temperatures.

As a result, high temperatures today are expected to be five to seven degrees warmer than Friday's, according to forecasters.

Highs on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday could top the century mark in the valleys, with a gradual cooling trend after that as the high pressure dome begins to break down and the marine layer returns.
