L.A. council backs lower drug prices

The Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  voted unanimously Wednesday to call for state and federal legislation that would allow Americans to buy medications reimported from Canada at lower prices.

Council members said that Americans pay inordinately high prices for prescription medications made in their own country and that reimporting them from Canada - which is prohibited by current law - would bring relief to low-income patients.

41-year-old hiker rescued in forest

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los  - Firefighters on Wednesday rescued a hiker stranded overnight near the Pacoima Dam Pacoima Dam is a variable radius arch dam on Pacoima Creek in the U.S. state of California. It is also known as Reagan Dam. The dam is situated in a canyon five miles (8 km) northeast of San Fernando.  in the Angeles National Forest.

The 41-year-old man, who suffered a minor head injury, was airlifted about 8 a.m. from hilly terrain near the 15300 block of Pacoima Canyon Road, said county fire Capt. Art Moncrief.

The helicopter crew brought the man to an area where an ambulance was waiting to take him to a hospital, Moncrief said.

Senate approves bullet-sales bill

The state Senate passed a Southland legislator's bill designed to require retailers to verify that a customer is at least 18 before selling ammunition to the person.

SB 1152 by Sen. Jack Scott, D-Pasadena, requires sellers to check the buyer's identification. The bill also requires sellers to keep a log of ammunition buyers.

Traffic stop leads to arrest of man

AGOURA HILLS - A 19-year-old Agoura Hills man was arrested after police found a homemade bomb and about half a pound of marijuana inside his house and car, authorities said Wednesday.

Stephen Crump was arrested Tuesday after police pulled him over for a traffic violation about 1 p.m. and found about a quarter of a pound of marijuana inside the car, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Ken Davidson said.
