SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - A 63-year-old Simi Valley man, who barricaded himself in his home and threatened suicide, was in jail in lieu of $500,000 bail Wednesday on suspicion of molesting six children, police said.

Police were notified Monday that one or more children attending a residential day care center operated by the suspect's wife at the home in the 4000 block of Helene Street may have been molested mo·lest

About 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, a teacher opening up the classrooms discovered red and purple spray paint on the walls stating ``Satan,'' ``the devil made me do it,'' ``666,'' among other hateful messages, said pastor Warren Danskin.

Police hunt duo in thefts at ATMs

OXNARD - Police said Wednesday they are seeking two men suspected of stealing ATM cards and money from Santa Barbara Bank and Trust machines at 2385 N. Oxnard Blvd.

Police said the suspects insert a clear plastic strip into the machines. They then post a note saying there's a problem.

NORTHRIDGE - A man died Wednesday night when he was hit by an Amtrak train in Northridge, authorities said.

The pedestrian, who appeared to be approximately 30 to 40 years old, suffered massive head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, northeast of White Oak Avenue and Chase Street, said Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Los Angeles.  spokesman Brian Humphrey.

It was unknown whether the death was a suicide or accidental.

It was not immediately known whether the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train was carrying any passengers when the man was hit, or how fast the train was traveling.

No one on the train appeared to be hurt, Humphrey said.
