Lane Community College Board member Tony McCown said he will make an official declaration Tuesday of his candidacy for the open West Lane county commissioner (District 1) position. McCown will make the announcement at 12:30 p.m. at the Wayne Morse Free Speech Plaza outside the Lane County Public Service Building in Eugene.

Some state beaches opened to clamming

The entire coast has been closed to recreational harvesting of razor clams and mussels since Sept. 21.
All razor clamming from the mouth of the Columbia River to the north jetty of Yaquina Bay remains closed. All mussel harvesting north of Bastendorf Beach also remains closed.
