VENTURA - Max Factor heir Andrew Luster has pleaded not guilty to charges he drugged and raped three women and videotaped the encounters with two of them.

Luster, 37, entered the pleas this week to 87 criminal counts and was ordered to trial Oct. 29. He is accused of using the date-rape drug gamma hydroxy butyrate butyrate /bu·ty·rate/ (bu´ti-rat) a salt, ester, or anionic form of butyric acid.

College gets grant for students' kids

Whooping cough breaks out in area

THOUSAND OAKS - Residents are being warned about an outbreak of whooping cough in the Conejo Valley.

Ventura County Public Health Services officials said a 12-year-old Thousand Oaks boy was treated for whooping cough, also known as pertussis pertussis: see whooping cough. , after being diagnosed July 3. The disease can be fatal for small children.

Health officials cautioned residents that even if a child has been vaccinated, the effects will wear off around the ages of 10, 11 and 12.

Man suspected of bomb threat

A 47-year-old Burbank man who allegedly made a bomb threat at the main gate to March Air Force Base in Riverside County on Tuesday was arrested on suspicion of stealing his parents' van, which he parked nearby, officials said.
