VALENCIA - The second annual Artists' Showcase of Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Hyatt Valencia, 24500 Town Center Drive, Valencia.

This is an opportunity to view or acquire award-winning, vibrant work that captures the look and feel of the Santa Clarita Valley, the Caribbean and the West.

The showcase will include watercolor paintings watercolor painting, in its wider sense, refers to all pigments mixed with water rather than with oil and also to the paintings produced by this process; it includes fresco and tempera as well as aquarelle, the process now commonly meant by the generic term. , acrylics, oils and fine art photography. Both framed and unframed art will be shown.

All of the artists who will be featured are based in the Santa Clarita Valley, and all are members of local artists and photography associations. Local artists whose works will be displayed are April Bielefeldt, Romeo Downer down·er

Big top is coming to town this June

SAUGUS - The Carson & Barnes 5-Ring Circus will bring its hundreds of performers and animals to the Saugus Speedway Speedway, town (1990 pop. 13,092), Marion co., central Ind., just W of Indianapolis; inc. 1926. The Indianapolis Speedway, site of the annual Indianapolis 500 car race, is located there. There is also light manufacturing.  on June 2 and 3, with shows at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. both days.

 the big top and the public is invited to watch the setup the morning of June 2. More than 100 exotic and domestic animals will be unloaded, fed and watered as soon as the huge transports pull onto the grounds.

Early birds can watch as the first units of the 80-vehicle caravan begin arriving about an hour after dawn and continue to file in most of the morning. Theater offering youth workshops

NEWHALL - The Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Production of several different plays in a single season by a resident acting company. The plays chosen may be classic works by famous dramatists or new works by emerging playwrights, and the companies that perform them often serve as a training ground for
 once again will offer summer youth acting workshops.

Directing For Teens will teach students the essential skills of working with actors, developing a scene, how to define the vision of the play and how to effectively tell the story. The course will be offered from 1:30- 3:30 p.m. Fridays from June 4 to Aug. 13. The cost is $200 for 11 weeks.

Character and Scene Study for Teens is essential for both the experienced actor and the beginner.

The class will focus on character development exercises and games, exploration of different acting styles and techniques, and preparation of a monologue monologue, an extended speech by one person only. Strindberg's one-act play The Stronger, spoken entirely by one person, is an extreme example of monologue.  for auditions. The workshop will be offered from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Mondays and Fridays from June 21 to Aug. 13. The cost is $200 for eight weeks.

Improv For Kids is an introduction to the imaginative world of improvisational acting that is the foundation of comedy. Students will explore ways to free and expand their improvisational abilities through collaborative games and imaginative activities with their peers. The course will be offered from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Fridays from May 28 to July 2.

The cost is $150.
