BRIEFLY MAN SHOT TO DEATH NEAR RESTAURANT.


PANORAMA CITY - A man died after he was shot in the chest late Friday outside a restaurant in the 8600 block of Van Nuys Boulevard, police said Saturday.

Three gunmen pulled up in what police say may have been a gray Acura shortly before midnight and fired several shots, then drove west, officials said.

The victim, Juan Rocha, 19, of Panorama City, later died in Mission Hospital from the wounds, authorities said.

Police said the shooting appears to have been gang-related.

Pedestrian killed crossing street

NORTH HILLS - A woman in her 30s died Saturday morning after she was hit by a car as she crossed Parthenia Street, police said.

A 41-year-old Pacoima woman driving the car about 8:30 a.m. was making a left turn from Columbus Avenue onto Parthenia Street when she hit the victim, authorities said. The victim's body was behind the 1993 Plymouth Voyager The Plymouth Voyager and Plymouth Grand Voyager were minivans marketed by DaimlerChrysler (they were sold by the Chrysler Corporation until 1998). The Voyager was originally a full-size van from 1974 to 1983, but the name was used again for a minivan in 1984.  before the driver noticed what had happened, police said.

 on Saturday after his vehicle plunged into the chilly, murky water, authorities said.

No other people were believed to be in the car.

The man's car was involved in a traffic collision at about 4:45 p.m., said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County fire Capt. Mark Savage. The vehicle went off the road, then struck a guardrail and telephone pole before plunging into the waterway.

The vehicle sank about 20 feet into the aqueduct, where water was estimated at 40 degrees and was running swiftly, Savage said.

Divers were called in to assist with the rescue. The man, believed to be in his 20s, was found in full cardiac arrest. His condition was not immediately known.

Friday's burglary at Valley Discount Jewelers in North Hollywood occurred about 3:15 a.m. when the alarm company received a signal from the store that the system was not working, store owner Krikor Kalajian said.

``It's the largest commercial burglary that I've ever seen,'' police Detective Ted Knott said.

Kalajian said the company had not notified police of the system failure and the burglary was not discovered until about 6:30 a.m., when he arrived at the store and discovered virtually all of the jewelry gone.
