LANCASTER - A man shot in the head Friday afternoon during an argument outside a Lancaster apartment appeared to be recovering, sheriff's deputies said Sunday.

The victim was identified as John Harvey, 26, of Lancaster. Deputies arrested Edward Vander, 24, of Lancaster on suspicion of attempted murder In the criminal law, attempted murder is committed when the defendant does an act that is more than merely preparatory to the commission of the crime of murder and, at the time of these acts, the person has a specific intention to kill. . The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History  in Mission Hills but is expected to live, deputies said.

Javier Avila, 20, of Lancaster told deputies that he arrived at work at a landscaping business in the 200 block of West Avenue L-4 Saturday morning when he heard someone shout his name from the business's back wall.

He told deputies he saw Rodriguez, who fired several shots at him with a rifle. Avila said he climbed a fence and escaped. Deputies said Rodriguez drove to a Palmdale residence and shot himself in the chest as he sat in his car.
