BRIEFLY MAN SHOT, KNIFED IN DRUG ARGUMENT.


RESEDA - A 27-year-old Northridge man was in critical condition Thursday after being shot six times and stabbed in the head and arm in a drug dispute with an assailant who was later arrested, police said.

 after the 7 a.m. incident Wednesday in the 7800 block of Reseda Boulevard.

The suspect, Levelle Robbins, 34, was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail on suspicion of attempted murder, authorities said.

Police said Perry and Robbins were arguing over crack cocaine when Robbins pulled a 9 mm pistol. Robbins fired once, but missed, then fired six more shots at Perry, before stabbing him, police said.

Feds will assess post-fire dangers

Teams of federal specialists will assess how to avoid watershed damage during the rainy aftermath of Southern California's wildfires, an official said Thursday.

The Burned Area Emergency Response Burned area emergency response (BAER) is an emergency risk management reaction to post wildfire conditions that pose risks to human life and property or could further destabilize or degrade the burned lands.  teams will work with local agencies and experts, focusing on priority needs and hazard prevention, said Cathleen Thompson of the U.S. Forest Service.

2 copters collide; two dead, 1 hurt

TORRANCE - Two helicopters collided in midair over the municipal airport Thursday afternoon, killing two people and injuring a third, police said.

The crash took place at about 3:30 p.m. at the Torrance Airport, Lt. Mark Hein said.

One helicopter crashed on the runway and the other crashed in a cornfield just north of the airport. The two people on the helicopter that crashed at the airport were killed and the pilot of the other helicopter, the only person on board, was hospitalized, said Officer Dave Crespin. The pilot had leg and head injuries, Hein said.

The identity of the victims and the cause of the crash were not immediately known.

Ventura County rape suit settled

VENTURA - Ventura County settled a lawsuit brought by a 22-year-old Moorpark woman alleging she was raped by a sheriff's deputy who promised not to arrest her on drug charges.

The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to pay the woman $162,500 after she sued the county, alleging the deputy harassed her and raped her under color of authority Under color of authority is a legal phrase used in the United States indicating a person is claiming or implying the acts he or she is committing are related to and legitimized by his or her role as an agent of governmental power. .

The deputy resigned during an investigation by the Sheriff's Department into his conduct.

The woman's attorney, Joe Freeman, declined to comment on the lawsuit.

In settling the lawsuit, the Sheriff's Department admitted no wrongdoing wrong·do·er
