Woman appointed to economic post

Mayor Jim Hahn said Thursday that he appointed Renata Simril deputy mayor of economic development.

``Renata's experience in economic development and public and private finance will serve the people of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  well,'' Hahn said.

``With Renata's background and experience, I am confident that she is the right person for the job, and that she will be an asset to my administration.''

Simril will work with businesses, developers and neighborhoods to promote economic development, job creation and community growth.

She also will collaborate with other city development departments to provide quality and streamlined customer service to the business and development communities. Simril will work with growth industries and finalize negotiations on projects in the pipeline.

New underwear sought for needy

Festival releases film dates, venue

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - The Valley Film Festival, a non-profit project of Community Partners, on Thursday announced its 2003 dates, venue, and film program.

The Third Annual Valley Film Festival will be held at the historic El Portal Theatre, in the NoHo Arts District, Wednesday through Nov. 2. Proceeds will benefit the development of (818), a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering filmmaking in the San Fernando Valley.

The 2003 program features seven short and seven feature films in a juried competition; five documentaries in an audience voted competition; and an additional twenty-four short films - including the popular ``After Dark'' series.
