VAN NUYS - A tree that fell across power lines triggered a transformer explosion and a chain reaction of outages extending into North Hollywood and Sherman Oaks on Thursday night, authorities said.

No injuries were reported, authorities said. However, the outage hit a 15-square-block area, and residents were evacuated when some power lines electrified water in the road from an unrelated water main break, KCAL-TV (Channel 9) reported.

Anacapa hospital closes its doors

$4.3 million suit by ex-cop settled
