BRIEFLY MAN DIES IN CRASH OF PICKUP TRUCK.LANCASTER - A Lancaster man died when his pickup truck ran off a two-lane rural road and overturned, sheriff's deputies said. Roberto Lara, 40, was thrown out of his 1998 Toyota Tacoma as it flipped at least twice about 12:40 a.m. Monday on 60th Street West south of Avenue G, deputies said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Lara apparently had not been wearing a seat belt, deputies said. They said they didn't know if alcohol was a factor in the crash. - Daily News Fund drive slated for Turkey dinner PALMDALE - In a joint effort, Grace Resource Center, Antelope Valley Burger Kings, and Clear Channel KTPI KTPI - Party of National Unity and Solidarity (Suriname)-FM (103.1), hope to raise $20,000 to provide a Thanksgiving dinner to people in need. From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, people can call (866) 790-1031 to make a pledge that will then be accepted at any of the six Antelope Valley Burger Kings. The money raised will be used to supply 2,000 families with Thanksgiving baskets and will also be used for a Thanksgiving dinner served at Grace Resource Center from noon to 3 p.m. Thanksgiving Day Thanksgiving Day, national holiday in the United States commemorating the Pilgrims' celebration of the harvest reaped by the Plymouth Colony in 1621, after a winter of great starvation and privation. The celebration was probably held in October. The neighboring Wampanoags, who outnumbered the colonists, joined them for three days and contributed food to the celebration..
