BRIEFLY MAN, 20, SURVIVES BUS-STOP SHOOTING.


NORTH HOLLYWOOD - A 20-year-old man who was shot while waiting at a bus stop was expected to recover, Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police said Saturday.

The man was at the bus bench near Lankershim and Victory boulevards Victory Boulevard is a major thoroughfare on Staten Island, measuring approximately 8.0 miles (12.87 km) and stretching from the west shore community of Travis to the upper east shore communities of St. George and Tompkinsville.  at 11:15 p.m. Friday when the gunman approached him and asked for money, said Detective Rich Wheeler of the North Hollywood Station.

When he refused, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot him, striking him in the chest, a shoulder and a leg, Wheeler said.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he was expected to survive, Wheeler said.

200 firefighters end Sunland blaze

SUNLAND - Fire crews on the ground and in the air put out a grass fire that burned several acres Saturday morning in Sunland.

Pedestrian killed crossing avenue

A 66-year-old Encino woman was killed late Friday night when she was hit by a truck as she crossed a street mid block, authorities said.

The woman, identified as Zhanna Batkilin was crossing Burbank Boulevard near Aldea Avenue at 10:35 p.m. when she was hit by a Dodge Ram

The Ram is a full-size pickup truck from Chrysler LLC's Dodge brand. The name was first used in 1981 on the redesigned Ram and Power Ram, though it came from the hood ornament used on
 pickup truck, police said.

The driver of the truck was not cited and the case was under investigation.

Woman faces jail for LAX form error

Susan Youngja Yai, 51, pleaded guilty in June to one count of failing to inform U.S. Customs she and her husband were bringing the cash - $8,179 more than can be imported without telling authorities - into the country upon their return from a trip to Prague and Vienna in 2000.
