Jill Oakes of Birmingham High of Van Nuys scored in the 76th minute as the United States' under-21 women's soccer team tied Germany 1-1 in Dokka, Norway, on Sunday to advance to the Nordic Cup final.

The U.S. plays Sweden in the championship game Tuesday. The U.S. and Germany finished Group A play with seven points each, but the Americans won on goal differential.

Oakes, who plays for Valley United and lives in West Hills, turned 17 on July 18. She scored six minutes after entering the game. She controlled the ball with her chest and fired a low 12-yard shot past goalkeeper Corrine Ernst.

``I always prepare myself mentally so if I get a chance to go into the game, I can make an impact,'' Oakes said.
