Police officer's condition serious

2-year-old boy pronounced dead

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - A 2-year-old boy who wandered from his home Wednesday was pronounced dead after he was found floating face down in a neighbor's pool nearly an hour after he was last seen.

The boy was being tended by his two teenage sisters at the family's home in the 7800 block of Goll Avenue when one of them noticed he was missing sometime before 3 p.m. The child had apparently got out of the house by moving a child gate in front of the door, officials said.

Executive gets acquitted in case

WESTLAKE VILLAGE - An executive from a now-defunct Westlake Village computer peripherals firm was acquitted Wednesday of charges regarding the company's financial records, two months after two other company leaders pleaded guilty in the case.

Steven Conrad Veen, a 48-year-old Downey resident, was the chief financial officer at NewCom Inc.

Veen's attorney, Marc Harris, said his client should never have been part of the case.

Performance set for 7 p.m. today

CANOGA PARK - A performance of the school's championship band and other music classes is scheduled this evening to celebrate the re-opening of Canoga Park High School's newly renovated auditorium.

The winter concert which begins at 7 p.m. is open to the public and costs $3, officials said.

The auditorium was built in 1939 at the high school located at 6850 Topanga Canyon Boulevard, and officials have tried to preserve as much of the building's original character as possible during the $250,000 renovation.
