BRIEFLY LITTLE LEAGUE GETS BOOST WITH GRANT.


TUJUNGA - Little League Baseball in Tujunga received a $5,000 grant for sports equipment, uniforms or scholarships, among 24 groups to receive $1.7 million in grants from the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , it was announced.

Kids in Sports received $612,000 to provide year-round sports at 14 parks and school sites, and L.A.'s BEST received $397,580 for year-round after-school sports programs at more than 100 Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  elementary schools. Pair unite to offer 10 scholarships

SYLMAR - Los Angeles Mission College Los Angeles Mission College is a two-year community college located in Sylmar, California neighborhood of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley, United States. It is part of the Los Angeles Community College District.  and the TELACU Education Foundation have agreed to offer annual scholarships to 10 Latino students at the campus, organizers said.

It has a large Mexican-American population. There is a performing arts center and a cultural center. Area firefighters collect for N.Y.

VENTURA - The Ventura County Professional Firefighter's Association announced it has raised $409,403 for the 343 families of firefighters who died Sept. 11 at the World Trade Center in New York New York, state, United States

Deadline looms for scholarships

 students interested in careers in telecommunications have until March 15 to apply for $5,000 college scholarships.

For the sixth consecutive year, the scholarships are being offered by the entertainment and communications company Adelphia and the Southern California Cable and Telecommunications Association, said Adelphia General Manager Jeff Mielo.

``This industry scholarship program underscores Adelphia's commitment to continued education in Southern California,'' Mielo said.

Man's body found in mobile home

ACTON - A man was found dead in a burned-out mobile home in Acton, a sheriff's investigator said Sunday.

Detectives were called about 5:30 p.m. Saturday after fire consumed two mobile homes and an outbuilding outbuilding n. a structure not connected with the primary residence on a parcel of property. This may include a shed, garage, barn, cabana, pool house, or cottage.  in the 8200 block of Soledad Canyon Road, about 5 miles west of Acton, according to the Sheriff's Department.

After the fire was put out, the body of a man was found in the ruins of one of the mobile homes.

He was not immediately identified.

Darkness forced detectives to halt their investigation into the blaze. They were expected to resume searching for clues Sunday.

Palmdale woman killed in car crash

PALMDALE - A traffic collision in Palmdale on Sunday evening left one woman dead, a sheriff's investigator said.

The collision occurred around 8 p.m. when a van and a Chevrolet Suburban collided at Avenue R and 45th Street East, sheriff's traffic investigator Deputy Mike Redding Redding, city (1990 pop. 66,462), seat of Shasta co., N central Calif., on the Sacramento River; inc. 1872. A principal tourist center for a mountain and lake region, it also has lumbering, food-processing, and diverse manufacturing.  said. The woman was not identified.
