Los Angeles schools Superintendent Roy Romer Roy R. Romer (born October 31, 1928 in Garden City, Kansas, United States) was the 39th governor of Colorado and served as the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District from 2001 to 2006.  pledged Friday to keep open five early learning centers slated for closure next month after public outcry and solid opposition from school board members.

Utah Street Children's Center downtown, will still close because of small enrollment.

Overpass work to close freeway

UNIVERSAL CITY - Work on a new overpass next to the Metro Red Line station will require the closing of the southbound Hollywood Freeway from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday, an official said.

GRANADA HILLS - A man who carjacked a Jeep Wrangler in the Bakersfield area Friday night led police down the Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. Originally built as U.S. Highway 99, it was re-signed as Interstate 5 in 1964.  to the San Fernando Valley where he apparently ran out of gas and surrendered to the CHP, authorities said.

The pursuit, at speeds up to 100 mph, began just after 9 p.m. and continued until he was taken into custody without incident at 10:15 p.m. near Devonshire Street and Petit Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Alex Gonzalez in Los Angeles.
