BRIEFLY LAWSUIT FILED IN ASPEN CRASH.


The families of three victims who died in a March 29 plane crash in Aspen, Colo., filed wrongful death The taking of the life of an individual resulting from the willful or negligent act of another person or persons.

If a person is killed because of the wrongful conduct of a person or persons, the decedent's heirs and other beneficiaries may file a wrongful death action
 lawsuits against the owner and operator of the jet Wednesday.

The parents of Elena Bernal and Yevgeny Kaplansky, and the husband of Maria Ramona Cota, sued Airborne Charter Inc., the company to which the jet was registered, and Avjet Corp., which housed the plane in a hangar at Burbank Airport.

Airborne Charter is run by Santa Monica-based Cinergi Pictures Cinergi Pictures Entertainment Inc. was a small independent production company that was formed in 1992 by Andrew G. Vajna. Vajna had previously sold his interest in his first production company, Carolco International Pictures in 1989, which he had started with his partner Mario  founder and producer Andrew G Andrew Jonas Günsberg (born 1974), popularly known as Andrew G, is an Australian television and radio presenter who is best known as the co-host of the reality series Australian Idol. He was also the compere of Network Ten's game show The Con Test. . Vajna.

Pyotr and Zinaida Kaplansky, Alfonso and Maria Elena Bernal and Ernesto Cota also sued the estates of pilots Robert Frisbie and Peter Kowalczyk.

The Gulfstream jet, which was coming from Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , slammed into a hillside on March 29 as it approached Aspen's airport runway. All 18 people on board were killed.

The lawsuits seek unspecified damages, claiming the plane was flown ``in a negligent, wanton Grossly careless or negligent; reckless; malicious.

The term wanton implies a reckless disregard for the consequences of one's behavior. A wanton act is one done in heedless disregard for the life, limbs, health, safety, reputation, or property rights of
, reckless, tortious Wrongful; conduct of such character as to subject the actor to civil liability under Tort Law.

In order to establish that a particular act was tortious, a plaintiff must prove that an actionable wrong existed and that damages ensued from that wrong.

On July 6, the parents of victim Paul Pierre Standifer filed a wrongful death suit against Airborne Charter, claiming the pilots attempted an instrument-only landing, which was prohibited during night landings at Aspen's Sardy Field.

WOODLAND HILLS - Funeral services will be held Friday for a 35-year- old California Highway Patrol officer who lost a lengthy battle with cancer.

Doug Hart, a five-year CHP veteran, died Saturday, said Officer Ray Abramian of the West Valley CHP in Woodland Hills.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.. Friday at St. John Eudes Catholic Church in Chatsworth. Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park.

Cpl. Mark Riddering was a Ventura officer from 1981-87 and also worked for the Port Hueneme, Oxnard and Santa Maria police departments. He's been honored as officer of the year in all four departments and helped organize Santa Maria's DARE program.

Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the Ventura Police Department or at the door.

Funds raised will help buy Riddering and his family an electric wheelchair and a modified vehicle so he can moved about.

Child, adult killed in shooting battle

A small child and an adult were killed and as many as four other people wounded in Willowbrook on Wednesday night when shots were fired from a car in a residential area, authorities said.
