BRIEFLY LAUSD WORKING WITH NSF ON STUDY.


The Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  and three other urban districts are working to improve math and science education under a $35 million project funded by the National Science Foundation.

The SCALE program calls for adopting the best math and science programs in the four districts; creating science, technology, engineering and math courses that immerse students in learning a topic; reforming teacher education; mounting a peer-tutoring program; and establishing a comprehensive research and evaluation program.

Reyes Adobe talk set for Tuesday

AGOURA HILLS - A public meeting on the completion and proposed use of the historic Reyes Adobe site will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Agoura City Hall, 30001 Ladyface Court.

The city and the Reyes Adobe Citizen Advisory Panel will take input from the public.

Election forum to be held Oct. 23

OAK PARK - An election forum will be held for candidates running for the Oak Park Unified School District Oak Park Unified School District (OPUSD) is a K-12 school district in southeast Ventura County, California, USA. It consists of six public schools in the community of Oak Park.  and the Rancho Simi Rancho San José de Nuestra Senora de Altagarcia y Simi is one of the land grants in California by the Spanish government. The name derives from Shimiji, the name of the Chumash village here before the Spanish.  Recreation and Park District at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at Oak Park High School, Room G-9, 899 Kanan Road.

Attendees can submit questions in writing to the candidates at the forum, sponsored by the Community Foundation For Oak Park.

Man jailed after killing his wife

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of fatally beating his wife Saturday and injuring her 13-year-old son when the youth tried to intervene, Los Angeles police said.

Police were sent about 2:30 a.m. to the 3500 block of South 10th Avenue on a domestic dispute call, said Sgt. Stephen Faulk of the Los Angeles Police Department's Southwest Division.

Carlos Campos allegedly struck his wife, 35-year-old Eva Guadalupe Garcia, in the head with a hammer when a verbal dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, said Los Angeles police Officer A. Milecki.

The woman and her injured son were taken to a hospital, where she later was pronounced dead. The condition of the boy was unclear.

Campos was booked at the Southwest station jail on suspicion of murder and was being held without bail, according to police.
