BRIEFLY LABONGE PUSHES FOR ANIMAL FUNDING.


A Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  city official called on Friday for the city to restore funding to help track coyotes and mountain lions spotted in Griffith Park Griffith Park is a large public park at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is situated in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The park covers 4,210 acres (17 km²) of land, making it one of the largest urban parks in North America. .

Councilman Tom LaBonge asked the city to restore $190,000 in funding to the Department of Animal Services to keep two wildlife officers on the job.

``Without the wildlife officers, many Los Angeles residents will be apprehensive about using our parks,'' LaBonge said. ``It is more important to have the public safe than for us to have this small savings.''

Small pipe bomb found behind mall

SIMI VALLEY - A bomb squad defused a small pipe bomb found in a field behind a Simi Valley shopping center, authorities said Friday.

An employee of a business in the shopping center at 1774 Los Angeles Avenue found the device about 6:50 p.m. Thursday and called police, Simi Valley police Lt. Greg Riegert said.

It was unclear who left the device in the field or why, Riegert said.

Police: Beware of plate, tag thefts

Buying stolen license plates can result in fines and a prison term of up to three years, officials warned Friday.
