BRIEFLY KIDS' ARTS FESTIVAL A HANDS-ON EVENT.


PALMDALE - Tonight is Kids Arts and Crafts arts and crafts, term for that general field of applied design in which hand fabrication is dominant. The term was coined in England in the late 19th cent. as a label for the then-current movement directed toward the revivifying of the decorative arts.  Night at Palmdale's Thursday Night on the Square. Children age 12 and under can take home a special arts and crafts project.

Food merchants, entertainment, craft and merchandise vendors will be doing business from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Poncitlan Square, 38315 9th St. E.

Jazz music will be provided by the Chris Ho Band.

Each week the mini festival features face painting, Riki Tiki Tiki

Palmdale official gets panel post

PALMDALE - As a representative of the Palmdale City Council, Mayor Pro Tem [Latin, For the time being.] An abbreviation used for pro tempore, Latin for "temporary or provisional."

A person who acts as a temporary substitute serves pro tem.
 Mike Dispenza has been elected the chairman of the City and County Contracts Committee of the California Contract Cities Association and a member of the association's State Executive Board.

General responsibilities for the City and County Contracts Committee include reviewing and surveying the county services providers in the contract process, the terms of the contracts and the equitability of the contracts to serve the interests of the member cities.

``We want to work with the county contractors to ensure that our membership is getting equal service for equal dollars,'' said Dispenza.

Dispenza also serves on the Legislative Committee of California Contract Cities Association. He represents Palmdale on the Antelope Valley Air Pollution Control Board and the Antelope Valley Transportation Authority Board. Dispenza has been a State Farm Insurance agent in Palmdale since 1988.
