Standout distance runner Bernard Lagat of Kenya has signed to compete in the 43rd Los Angeles Invitational indoor track meet, organizers said Tuesday.

The country's second-oldest indoor competition will be Feb. 15 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

Lagat has a best time of 3:26.34 in the 1,500 meters - the second-fastest clocking ever and equivalent to a 3:43.5 mile. He is rated second in the world behind Hicham El Guerrouj Hicham El Guerrouj (Arabic: هشام الكروج, born September 14, 1974, Berkane) is a retired Moroccan middle distance runner. He is the world record holder for the 1,500 metres (3:26.00), the mile (3:43.  of Morocco, the world record-holder.

SOCCER: The national teams of El Salvador and Guatemala will play two matches this weekend in preparation for February's Central American Gold Cup qualifying tournament in Panama. Friday's game will be at 8 p.m. at the Santa Ana Bowl, with a rematch at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Coliseum. Tickets for Sunday's match are $20 in advance and $25 at the gate.

AUTO RACING: Christian Fittipaldi returned to Daytona International Speedway Daytona International Speedway is a superspeedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. It is a 2.5 mile (4 km) tri-oval race track facility with a seating capacity of 168,000 spectators.  for the second of NASCAR's testing sessions and posted the fastest lap of the day.

The Brazilian tested the No. 33 Chevrolet and ran the fastest lap at 183.561 mph in the afternoon session. That topped the 181.243 he ran last week in Petree's No. 55 Chevy.

BASKETBALL: Grace Bible College Grace Bible College is a fundamentalist Christian college in the premillenial, dispensational tradition located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The school is regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association for Biblical Higher Education  of Grand Rapids, Mich., has canceled its remaining 13 men's games after four members were ruled ineligible to play because of poor grades, leaving the team with only three players.
