BRIEFLY JUDGE POSTPONES HARTER SENTENCING.


LANCASTER - Sentencing was postponed Monday for Emma Harter, the 72-year-old retired school cafeteria cafeteria: see restaurant.  manager from Acton convicted of felony felony (fĕl`ənē), any grave crime, in contrast to a misdemeanor, that is so declared in statute or was so considered in common law.  animal cruelty for keeping more than 200 Chihuahuas in her home.

 Superior Court Judge Lisa Chung delayed the sentencing until July 22 after Harter's attorney filed motions asking for a new trial and a reduction of the felony charge to a misdemeanor misdemeanor, in law, a minor crime, in contrast to a felony. At common law a misdemeanor was a crime other than treason or a felony. Although it might be a grave offense, it did not affect the feudal bond or take away the offender's property. By the 19th cent. . Chung also said a sentencing report on Harter had not been prepared.

Last week in court as the guilty verdict was read, Harter broke down in tears and was near collapse, and she was taken away by ambulance to a hospital.
