Circus protester released from jail

AGOURA HILLS - Animal rights activist and former child actress Pamelyn Ferdin was released from county jail Tuesday night, serving only seven days of a 30-day sentence for carrying a wooden pole at a circus protest. The seven-day term ended a four-year legal battle for the actress, most known as the voice of Lucy in several ``Peanuts'' TV specials in the 1960s and 1970s.

She had been convicted of carrying a wooden elephant bull hook at a Pierce College protest in 1999 designed to highlight what she believes is cruel treatment of circus animals. A city ordinance prohibits the possession of wooden poles of certain dimensions at a protest.
