Driver speeding before fatal crash

THOUSAND OAKS - The 16-year-old driver in a crash that killed a 13-year-old Thousand Oaks boy was driving 89 to 91 mph in a 35 mph zone, police said Wednesday.

The conclusion stemmed from physical evidence in the July 10 crash that killed Gregory ``Chase'' Arnett, Ventura County sheriff's Sgt. Patti Salas said.

Authorities haven't determined whether the 16-year-old driver will face charges in connection with the crash on Valley Spring Drive in Thousand Oaks that also injured the boys' 15-year-old friend, Salas said.

The driver had been issued a provisional license, which barred him from carrying passengers under 20 without an adult in the vehicle, just two months before the crash, Salas said.
