SANTA CLARITA - A 73-year-old Granada Hills man was killed and another injured in a head-on collision on state Route 126 at San Martinez Grande Canyon Road, authorities said Tuesday.

Ajit Thiara was killed when he lost control of his 1997 Honda and veered into oncoming traffic while driving eastbound about 4:10 p.m. Monday, authorities. He struck Cuyler Gibbons, 42, of Ventura, who was airlifted to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for treatment of major injuries.

Three suspected in shooting death

SYLMAR - Three suspects are being sought in connection with the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man in Sylmar Park.

Steven Yuhasz of Sylmar was still alive with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen when police found him Tuesday about 10 p.m. in the park gymnasium Monday night. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

An investigation revealed the victim was shot by three unknown assailants during an argument, police said.

Drivers, operators continue working

The MTA's bus and train operators can continue working with a contract extension reached following Monday's midnight deadline for it to expire, officials said Tuesday.

Both the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the United Transportation Union have said they want to avoid a walkout like the one three years ago as they negotiate a new contract for the 4,700 drivers.

Shooting suspect turns self in
