Increase expected in air traffic

Fire crew rescues 3 hikers

ALTADENA - County firefighters rescued three hikers Wednesday from a crumbling ledge on a cliff in Altadena, two by helicopter and one by ground crew.

The daughter of one hiker managed to get to safety as her dad, her brother and friend waited for help. She used a cellular phone to call for help.

The drama played out shortly after 3 p.m., on a cliff down from a hiking trail near East Loma Alta Drive and North Lake Avenue, said Inspector Mike Brown of the county fire department.

The girl's father said they had gone hiking in a very steep area and got caught on an unstable ledge.
