 Children's Planning Council will hold a special meeting Wednesday to share information about resources for families and children and to hear about community concerns and needs.

The Children's Planning Council is a public-private planning body that seeks to improve outcomes for families and children by working collaboratively with county agencies, community organizations and community members.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at Vista San Gabriel San Gabriel (săn gā`brēəl), city (1990 pop. 37,120), Los Angeles co., SW Calif.; inc. 1913. Lancaster man gets 6 years for slaying

LOS ANGELES - A Lancaster man was sentenced Monday to six years in prison after he pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the slaying of an Alhambra 19-year-old who was stabbed to death outside a Lancaster pool hall.

Michael Soliven, 26, entered his plea before the start of his second trial. His first trial ended in a mistrial A courtroom trial that has been terminated prior to its normal conclusion. A mistrial has no legal effect and is considered an invalid or nugatory trial. It differs from a "new trial," which recognizes that a trial was completed but was set aside so that the issues could be  when a Los Angeles Superior Court jury acquitted him of first-degree murder but deadlocked on lesser charges.

Soliven, a hospital surgical technician, was one of three men charged in the slaying of 19-year-old John Ngo Investigators said Ngo was an innocent bystander by·stand·er
