A group of residents announced plans on Wednesday to try to recall Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa Antonio Ramon Villaraigosa (born Antonio (Tony) Ramon Villar, Jr. on January 23, 1953) is the mayor of Los Angeles, California. The group of five residents from his 14th Council District filed the notice to recall Villaraigosa, citing his promise to serve a full four-year term as council member when he was elected in 2003. They said further details will be released on Friday.

Aides to Villaraigosa dismissed the threat as politically motivated.

The tents are used as shelter from the elements by DWP employees who work in desert areas.

The lawsuit alleges David Grant has been promoting the site royromer.com by sending illegal spam e-mail to more than district 500 employees.

Romer and the district also and claim Grant intended to lure the district's some 700,000 underage students to the site.

$397,000 going for public safety

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) is a local law enforcement agency that serves Los Angeles County, California.
 and the District Attorney's Office will receive a combined $397,000 for a public safety program for unincorporated areas, a supervisor announced Wednesday.

The Sheriff's Department's share is $147,000, with the District Attorney's Office getting $250,000. The money will be used to continue the Citizens' Option for Public Safety program, which provides funding for front-line law enforcement services and criminal prosecution in the unincorporated areas.

The funds are part of a larger state grant earmarked for front-line law enforcement.

Burglar steals saber, other items

LANCASTER - A weekend burglar stole a U.S. Air Force saber in a wooden case, a USAF Academy class ring, a USAF insignia and a Russian military stopwatch, a sheriff's detective in Lancaster said Wednesday.

The ring is 10-karat gold with a star sapphire setting, said Detective Sgt. Paul Kaser of the Lancaster sheriff's station.

He said the burglary occurred some time over the weekend in the 45700 block of Saint Andrews Street. Anyone with more information about the break-in or the stolen items is asked to call Kaser at (661) 948-8466.

Body discovered in Canyon Country

SANTA CLARITA - A man's body was found Wednesday in a Canyon Country residence, authorities said.

The body was discovered in the 13100 block of Soledad Canyon Road about 5:45 a.m., said Deputy Josie Woolum of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

The name of the dead man and the cause of his death were not immediately known.
