Commission hails life-saving hero

OXNARD - A 40-year-old Oxnard man who saved a mother and her two children as they struggled in Channel Islands Harbor was among among 19 people honored Thursday by the Carnegie Hero Fund The Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, also known as Carnegie Hero Fund, was established to recognize persons who perform extraordinary acts of heroism in civilian life in the United States and Canada, and to provide financial assistance for those disabled and the dependents of  Commission.

Former lifeguard Brian Wiggins was credited with saving Narinder Virk and her children on Jan. 12, 2000. Officials said Virk was distraught over her failed marriage and trying to kill herself and children when Wiggins heard the boy's cries for help.
