BRIEFLY GLENDALE COLLEGE OFFERS TRAVEL PLAN.


GLENDALE- Glendale Community College will offer semester-long courses this spring in Italy, Ireland and Costa Rica through its Study Abroad program.

In addition to registration fees, air fare, room and board will cost $4,600 for the program in Italy, $2,800 for Ireland and $2,300 for Costa Rica. All courses in the program are regular community college classes transferable to universities.

Winners selected in library contest

BURBANK - Nine local youngsters have been named winners of the Burbank Public Library's competition in essays, poetry or art on the theme ``Books Fuel Your Mind''.

Albert J. Lee won in the preschool category, and Ruben Rojas of St. Charles School and Gabriella Pineiro of Providencia Prov·i·den·ci·a (prv-dn Elementary topped the competition among children in kindergarten through second grade.

In third through fifth grades, winners were Nikola Brkic of Jefferson Elementary, first place; Brigette Hernandez of Providencia, second place, and Christopher Markel-Hibdon of Stevenson School, third place.

The winners in sixth through eighth grades were Christopher Yu of Muir Middle School, first place; Clara Hyo Eun Shim A small piece of software that is added to an existing system program or protocol in order to provide some enhancement., also of Muir, second place; and Justin Howard, who is schooled at home, third.

The winning entries are on display through November at the Central Library, 110 N. Glenoaks Blvd.

Red Cross needs volunteer to help

BURBANK - The American Red Cross needs a volunteer to work the front desk at its Burbank Service Center, 1001 W. Magnolia Blvd.

Duties include meeting and greeting clients and answering phones. For information, call (213) 739-5246.
