SUN VALLEY - Councilwoman Ruth Galanter Ruth Galanter was a city councilwoman from Los Angeles. She served as President Pro-Tempore and President of the city council.  will host a town-hall meeting tonight for constituents to meet her council staff and talk to representatives from city departments about local problems such as potholes, street lighting, illegal dumping and graffiti.

The forum begins at 7 p.m. and runs until 9 at the Sun Valley Recreation Center, 8133 Vineland Ave. Representatives from a number of city departments from Aging to Transportation will be on hand.

Court dismisses 'Jones' judgment

BURBANK - A Michigan appeals court Wednesday threw out the $29 million judgment entered against ``The Jenny Jones Show'' in 1999 stemming from the murder of a former guest by another guest.

The court held that the show ``had no duty to anticipate and prevent the act of murder committed by (Jonathan) Schmitz three days after leaving (the) studio and hundreds of miles away.''

The panel ordered the trial judge to enter judgment on behalf of the show, and its Burbank-based production company, Telepictures Productions.

Indianans probe Valley-based porn

VAN NUYS - Indiana University officials on Wednesday asked local law enforcement authorities to help investigate reports that an adult film was shot on campus by San Fernando Valley filmmakers.

The university said in a news release that the individuals involved said they were students from Los Angeles who were working on a film project.

The film ``Campus Invasion'' was made at various locations on campus by adult filmmakers from Shane's World, a Web site based in Van Nuys, said Calli Cox, a publicist and adult film actress for Shane Enterprises.

Future physicians invited to CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  

NORTHRIDGE - California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. Pierce grant to lift number of nurses

TARZANA - Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center and Tenet Healthcare Foundation will award a $100,000 grant to Pierce College today to improve the local shortage of registered nurses.
