 Dryden chief historian Michael Gorn and Air Force historian Richard Hallion will discuss ``On the Frontier On the Frontier: A Melodrama in Two Acts, by W. H. Hospital benefit in a shop setting

The Antelope Valley
 Hospital Gift Foundation will hold a fund-raiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Over the Rainbow discount store, 1963 W. Ave. L.

The gift foundation will receive 20 percent of the event's sales. Patrons will also receive a 5 percent discount on items purchased that evening. Funds raised will benefit the patrons' choice of five hospital charities. For more information call (661) 942-9040.

Palmdale library will close for a day

PALMDALE - The Palmdale city library and youth library, along with the Literacy Program offices and tutor room, will be closed Thursday for staff training.

Regular hours of operation for the two facilities are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The main library is closed on Sundays but the youth library is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. For more information call (661) 267-5600.

Mosquito-control open house set

LANCASTER - The Antelope Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District will hold an open house from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the district office, 42624 6th St. E.

The open house is in conjunction with National Mosquito and Vector Control and West Nile Virus West Nile virus, microorganism and the infection resulting from it, which typically produces no symptoms or a flulike condition. The virus is a flavivirus and is related to a number of viruses that cause encephalitis.  Awareness Week.
