Oxnard man dies of injuries in crash

CAMARILLO - A 40-year-old Oxnard man died early Thursday after crashing his car into a power pole west of Camarillo. The California Highway Patrol said alcohol was a factor.

George E. Gomez was driving his 1993 Nissan east on Wright Road west of Beardsley Road about 1 a.m. at a high speed when he lost control and slammed into the pole on the north side of the road, according to a statement from the CHP CHP Chapter

Gomez was unconscious and lying outside the car when officers found him, and officials said he smelled of alcohol. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence but later died at Saint John's Hospital from severe blunt force trauma, officials said.
